Freshmen & First-year

  • Single students who are admitted as Freshman or 1st-year students are required to live on campus for 3 Semesters in freshman style housing. If you have completed credits before graduating from high school you are considered a 1st-year student and are required to live on campus for 3 semesters in freshman style housing.

  • As soon as you are admitted to the BYU-Hawaii, you can fill out your housing application.
    How to Reserve a Room:
    Housing Portal → Secure Housing → Hales → Reserve a Room → Apply → Sign Contract → Pay $50 application fee

  • Every semester, students who are required to stay in on-campus housing for the following semester must renew their contract during Renew Contract Week. In Fall and Winter, other students who are attending school for the following semester will have the opportunity to renew their contract during Renew Contract Week. Between Fall and Winter, students cannot change rooms unless they are eligible for Hale 10. During Winter and Spring Change Room Week, select students that renewed may choose a new room for the following semester (see the contract). During Summer and Fall Change Room Week, all students that renewed may choose a new room for Summer/Fall.

    Students allowed to move off-campus (see policy), getting married, graduating, going on an internship, mission or Leave of Absence for the following semester should not renew.

Transfer & Returning

  • If you are a single student admitted with credits completed after high school graduation at a different school, you are considered a transfer student. If you have attended BYUH before, left for 2 or more semesters, and had to re-apply to BYUH you are a returning student. Current students on Leave of Absence (LOA) or internship ARE NOT considered returning students.

    If you have completed:

    • Completed between 1-12 credits* after high school graduation you are required to live on campus for 2 semesters
    • Completed between 12.1 and 24 credits* after high school graduation, you are required to live on campus for 1 semester
    • Returning or Transfer students with more than 24 credits completed after high school graduation are eligible for off-campus or on-campus upperclassmen housing. On campus, upperclassmen housing is based on availability.
    *Credits must be completed and posted to your BYU-Hawaii account by the RSVP deadline for the Semester attending* Completed credits are credits that have been earned, credits that are in progress may not count if they are not completed by the RSVP deadline.

  • Transfer and Returning students can book available rooms during Book a Room Week. Open dates are based on completed credits.
